About the RTD and Thermocouple Sensor Calibration Report

Temperature sensors cannot be adjusted, only checked. A comparison calibration against a reference thermometer in a dry block or bath shows whether the sensor still meets its class, and records raw values for diagnosis.

How to fill in this template

  1. Enter the sensor type and tolerance, for example IEC 60751 class A at the highest test temperature.
  2. Insert sensor and reference in the dry block at the same depth.
  3. At each set point wait for stability, then record reference and sensor readings.
  4. Record the raw Ω or mV value to help diagnose faults.
  5. Review errors and decide: accept, correct in transmitter, or replace.

What the formulas do

  • Error (°C) = sensor reading − reference reading.
  • PASS when |error| ≤ tolerance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tolerance should I use for a class A Pt100?

± (0.15 + 0.002 |t|) °C, so ± 0.35 °C at 100 °C and ± 0.75 °C at 300 °C.

Why use a reference thermometer instead of the dry block display?

The block display measures the block, not the hole the sensor is in; a reference reduces uncertainty.

Can I calibrate a thermocouple the same way?

Yes, set the tolerance from the IEC 60584 class and record mV as the raw value.
