How to Convert Magnetomotive Force Units

Magnetomotive force drives magnetic flux through a magnetic circuit, much as voltage drives current. The SI unit is the ampere turn (At), equal to the current multiplied by the number of coil turns.

Every unit on this page is stored as a fixed factor relative to one reference unit, the ampere turn (At). Converting is a two step multiply and divide:

  1. Multiply your value by the factor of the source unit to get the value in At.
  2. Divide that result by the factor of the target unit.
Value in B = Value in A × (Factor of A ÷ Factor of B)
Worked example: convert 100 gilbert to ampere turn. Using At = Gi × 0.795775: 100 Gi × 0.795775 = 79.5775 At.
