How to Convert Pressure Units
Pressure is force per unit area. The SI unit is the pascal (Pa = 1 N/m²); process plants commonly use bar, psi, kg/cm² and water column units for low pressures and differential pressure transmitters. Water and mercury column units here use conventional (standard gravity) definitions.
Every unit on this page is stored as a fixed factor relative to one reference unit, the pascal (Pa). Converting is a two step multiply and divide:
- Multiply your value by the factor of the source unit to get the value in Pa.
- Divide that result by the factor of the target unit.
