Non Inverting Op Amp Amplifier Calculator

Find the gain and output voltage of a non inverting op amp stage, or choose Rf for a target gain.

How this result was calculated
  1. Av = 1 + Rf ÷ Rg = 1 + 47 kΩ ÷ 10 kΩ = 5.7
  2. Vout = 2.85 V

Non Inverting Amplifier Formula

Av = 1 + Rf ÷ Rg
Vout = (1 + Rf ÷ Rg) × Vin

Rg goes from the inverting input to ground, Rf from the output to the inverting input. With Rf = 0 and Rg open the stage becomes a unity gain voltage follower.

Worked example

Rf = 47 kΩ and Rg = 10 kΩ give a gain of 5.7. A 0.5 V input produces 2.85 V.

Key insight: the input goes straight to the op amp pin, so input impedance is very high, ideal for thermocouple, pH and other high impedance sensors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the gain of a non inverting amplifier?

1 + Rf/Rg. The output is in phase with the input.

What is the minimum gain?

1, as a voltage follower with Rf shorted and Rg removed.

How do I get a gain of 10?

Use Rf = 9 × Rg, for example 90.9 kΩ and 10 kΩ (E96 values).
