What is Emission Oxygen Correction?

reference O₂ basisAnalytical

Emission oxygen correction converts a measured pollutant concentration to a reference oxygen level, so results cannot be diluted with air.

Emission Oxygen Correction Explained

Permits state limits at a reference O₂, for example 3 % for gas boilers or 6 % for solid fuels. Measured values are corrected from the actual O₂.

Use dry basis concentrations and O₂ consistently.

Emission Oxygen Correction Formula

Cref = Cmeas × (20.9 − O₂ref) ÷ (20.9 − O₂meas)

Example: 200 mg/Nm³ at 8 % O₂ corrected to 3 %: 200 × 17.9 ÷ 12.9 ≈ 278 mg/Nm³.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Emission Oxygen Correction?

Emission oxygen correction converts a measured pollutant concentration to a reference oxygen level, so results cannot be diluted with air.

Why correct to a reference O₂?

Otherwise adding air would lower the reported concentration without lowering emissions.

Is 20.9 % exact?

It is the usual value for dry air in these formulas.
