How to Convert Power Units
Power is the rate of doing work or transferring energy. The SI unit is the watt (W = 1 J/s); motors are rated in kW or horsepower, and cooling equipment in BTU per hour or tons of refrigeration.
Every unit on this page is stored as a fixed factor relative to one reference unit, the watt (W). Converting is a two step multiply and divide:
- Multiply your value by the factor of the source unit to get the value in W.
- Divide that result by the factor of the target unit.
