How to Convert Temperature Interval Units

A temperature interval is a difference between two temperatures, such as a span, rise or tolerance. Unlike absolute temperature there is no offset: a change of 1 °C equals 1 K and 1.8 °F.

Every unit on this page is stored as a fixed factor relative to one reference unit, the kelvin (K). Converting is a two step multiply and divide:

  1. Multiply your value by the factor of the source unit to get the value in K.
  2. Divide that result by the factor of the target unit.
Value in B = Value in A × (Factor of A ÷ Factor of B)
Worked example: convert 10 degree celsius to degree fahrenheit. Using °F = °C × 1.8: 10 °C × 1.8 = 18 °F.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SI unit of temperature interval?

The SI unit of temperature interval is the kelvin (K). A temperature interval is a difference between two temperatures, such as a span, rise or tolerance. Unlike absolute temperature there is no offset: a change of 1 °C equals 1 K and 1.8 °F.

How do I convert °C to °F?

To convert degree celsius (°C) to degree fahrenheit (°F), multiply the value in °C by 1.8. For example, 1 °C = 1.8 °F.

How do I convert °F to °C?

To convert degree fahrenheit (°F) to degree celsius (°C), multiply the value in °F by 0.555556. For example, 1 °F = 0.555556 °C.

How do I convert kelvin to °F?

To convert kelvin (K) to degree fahrenheit (°F), multiply the value in kelvin by 1.8. For example, 1 K = 1.8 °F.

Can I see a value in every temperature interval unit at once?
