How to Convert Torque Units
Torque, or moment of force, is the turning effect of a force about an axis (force times lever arm). The SI unit is the newton metre (N·m); bolt tightening and valve actuator sizing also use kgf·m, lbf·ft and lbf·in.
Every unit on this page is stored as a fixed factor relative to one reference unit, the newton metre (N·m). Converting is a two step multiply and divide:
- Multiply your value by the factor of the source unit to get the value in N·m.
- Divide that result by the factor of the target unit.
