What is Spring Range?
Spring range is the air pressure range over which a spring diaphragm actuator moves through full stroke with no process load.
Spring Range Explained
Bench set is this range measured on the bench, such as 0.4 to 2.0 bar. In service, process forces shift the actual operating range, so the bench set is chosen to give enough seat load and opening force.
Wrong bench set causes passing valves or valves that cannot fully open.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Spring Range?
Spring range is the air pressure range over which a spring diaphragm actuator moves through full stroke with no process load.
Why is bench set different from 3 to 15 psi?
The positioner supplies whatever pressure is needed; bench set is chosen for forces, not for the signal range.
How is bench set checked?
Isolate the valve, apply air in steps and note the pressure at start and end of travel.
