How to Convert Capacitance Units

Capacitance is the ability to store charge per unit voltage (C = Q / V). The SI unit is the farad (F); practical capacitors range from picofarads in RF circuits to farads in supercapacitors.

Every unit on this page is stored as a fixed factor relative to one reference unit, the farad (F). Converting is a two step multiply and divide:

  1. Multiply your value by the factor of the source unit to get the value in F.
  2. Divide that result by the factor of the target unit.
Value in B = Value in A × (Factor of A ÷ Factor of B)
Worked example: convert 0.1 microfarad to nanofarad. Using nF = µF × 1,000: 0.1 µF × 1,000 = 100 nF.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SI unit of capacitance?

The SI unit of capacitance is the farad (F). Capacitance is the ability to store charge per unit voltage (C = Q / V).

How do I convert µF to nF?

To convert microfarad (µF) to nanofarad (nF), multiply the value in µF by 1,000. For example, 1 µF = 1,000 nF.

How do I convert nF to pF?

To convert nanofarad (nF) to picofarad (pF), multiply the value in nF by 1,000. For example, 1 nF = 1,000 pF.

How do I convert pF to µF?

To convert picofarad (pF) to microfarad (µF), multiply the value in pF by 0.000001. For example, 1 pF = 0.000001 µF.

Can I see a value in every capacitance unit at once?

Yes. Enter a value and choose the source unit; the "all units" table below the converter instantly lists the equivalent in all 8 supported units. Click any row to make it the target unit.
