How to Convert Inductance Units

Inductance is the property of a conductor to oppose changes in current by inducing a voltage (V = L × dI/dt). The SI unit is the henry (H); coils and chokes are usually rated in µH or mH.

Every unit on this page is stored as a fixed factor relative to one reference unit, the henry (H). Converting is a two step multiply and divide:

  1. Multiply your value by the factor of the source unit to get the value in H.
  2. Divide that result by the factor of the target unit.
Value in B = Value in A × (Factor of A ÷ Factor of B)
Worked example: convert 1 millihenry to microhenry. Using µH = mH × 1,000: 1 mH × 1,000 = 1,000 µH.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SI unit of inductance?

The SI unit of inductance is the henry (H). Inductance is the property of a conductor to oppose changes in current by inducing a voltage (V = L × dI/dt).

How do I convert mH to µH?

To convert millihenry (mH) to microhenry (µH), multiply the value in mH by 1,000. For example, 1 mH = 1,000 µH.

How do I convert µH to nH?

To convert microhenry (µH) to nanohenry (nH), multiply the value in µH by 1,000. For example, 1 µH = 1,000 nH.

How do I convert henry to mH?

To convert henry (H) to millihenry (mH), multiply the value in henry by 1,000. For example, 1 H = 1,000 mH.

Can I see a value in every inductance unit at once?

Yes. Enter a value and choose the source unit; the "all units" table below the converter instantly lists the equivalent in all 8 supported units. Click any row to make it the target unit.
