About this Table

4 to 20 mA conversion table for loop checks and calibration, with equivalent voltage and pneumatic signals for every 5 % of range.

Basis: Linear signal scaling: mA = 4 + 16 × % ÷ 100. NAMUR NE 43 for signal limits and failure currents.

How to use

  1. Find the percent of range.
  2. Read the expected mA or other signal.
  3. Engineering value = LRV + % × (URV − LRV) ÷ 100.

Notes

  • 1 to 5 V equals 4 to 20 mA across a 250 Ω resistor.
  • Check the device burnout setting (high or low) before testing alarms.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is 50 % in 4 to 20 mA?

12 mA.

What current means a fault?

Below 3.6 mA or above 21 mA to NAMUR NE 43.

Why does the signal start at 4 mA?

A live zero lets the system detect a broken wire and powers 2 wire transmitters.
