About this Table

Cable size chart for metric conductors with the maximum DC resistance allowed by IEC 60228 for class 2 stranded conductors.

Basis: IEC 60228 Table 2, maximum DC resistance at 20 °C for class 2 plain copper and aluminium conductors (aluminium from 10 mm²).

How to use

  1. Find the conductor size.
  2. Multiply Ω/km by route length in km × 2 for the loop resistance.
  3. Correct for temperature: R rises about 0.393 % per °C for copper.

Notes

  • Values are maximum limits; real cables are usually a little lower.
  • Instrument loops: check the transmitter minimum voltage with the loop resistance.
