About this Table

NPT thread chart for tapered pipe threads used on gauges, transmitters, manifolds and process connections.

Basis: ASME B1.20.1 Pipe Threads, General Purpose (Inch). Taper 1 in 16 on diameter; 60° thread angle.

How to use

  1. Measure the outside diameter of a male thread and count threads per inch.
  2. Match both to the table.
  3. 1/2 NPT is the usual transmitter and gauge connection.

Notes

  • NPT and BSPT look similar; BSP has a 55° angle and different TPI for most sizes.
  • NPT seals on the thread with tape or sealant; NPTF is the dry seal version.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the OD of 1/2 NPT?

0.840 inch (21.34 mm), 14 threads per inch.

Can I connect NPT to BSPT?

Not reliably. Only 1/2 and 3/4 share the same TPI and they still leak.

What size is 1/4 NPT?

0.540 inch OD (13.72 mm), 18 TPI.
