About this Table

Stainless steel pipe schedule chart for Sch 5S, 10S, 40S and 80S with outside diameter and wall thickness in mm.

Basis: ASME B36.19M Stainless Steel Pipe (metric values). OD is the same as carbon steel pipe of the same NPS.

How to use

  1. Find the NPS or DN.
  2. Read across to the schedule for the wall thickness in mm.
  3. Inside diameter = OD − 2 × wall.

Notes

  • 40S and 80S match Sch 40 and Sch 80 up to NPS 10 (8 for 80S); larger sizes differ.
  • Blank cells are not listed in B36.19M.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the wall of 1 inch Sch 10S pipe?

2.77 mm with a 33.4 mm OD.

Can I use carbon steel schedules for stainless?

Up to the sizes where they match. Use B36.19M for 5S and 10S and for large 40S and 80S sizes.

Why is 10S common in stainless?

Stainless resists corrosion, so thinner walls are often enough for utility and process lines.
