About the Flow Meter / Transmitter Data Sheet
Flow meter selection depends on the fluid as much as on the flow: a magnetic meter needs a conductive liquid, a vortex meter needs enough velocity, and a Coriolis meter needs an acceptable pressure drop. A complete data sheet with minimum, normal and maximum conditions lets the vendor size the meter properly.
How to fill in this template
- Give minimum, normal and maximum flow and the operating and design conditions from the process data sheet.
- Add fluid properties the meter type needs: conductivity for magnetic meters, viscosity and density for vortex and DP meters.
- Select the meter type, size and calibrated range; the turndown row shows how far the minimum flow is below full scale.
- Specify materials, output, Ex certification and enclosure.
- Issue with the requisition; the vendor completes the model and sizing.
What the formulas do
- Turndown = calibrated range maximum ÷ minimum flow.

Frequently Asked Questions
What process data does a flow meter data sheet need?
Fluid and phase, minimum, normal and maximum flow, pressure and temperature, density, viscosity, and for magnetic meters, conductivity.
Why give minimum flow?
It sets the turndown the meter must handle. Many meters lose accuracy or cut off at low flow.
Should the meter be line size?
Not always. Vortex and magnetic meters are often one size smaller than the line to raise velocity; check the sizing with the vendor.
