About the Flowmeter Verification Record
Flowmeters drift through wear, coating and electronics ageing. Periodic verification against a trusted reference shows whether the meter still meets its accuracy, and provides data for a meter factor correction if needed.
How to fill in this template
- Enter meter, reference and tolerance.
- Run the flow steady at each test rate and collect a reference volume while reading the meter total.
- Enter reference and meter volumes for each run.
- Review error, mean error and spread; a consistent offset suggests a K factor or meter factor correction.
- Sign and file with the meter history.
What the formulas do
- Error (%) = (meter volume − reference volume) ÷ reference volume × 100.
- Mean error = average of all run errors.
- Spread = maximum − minimum error, a simple repeatability check.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long should each run be?
Long enough that timing and reading resolution are small compared with the tolerance, often at least 1 minute or 1000 pulses.
What is a good reference?
A weigh tank, a prover or a master meter with uncertainty at least 3 to 4 times better than the tolerance.
Can I use a bucket test?
For small water meters, yes, with a calibrated container and stopwatch.
