About the Pressure Gauge Calibration Report
Dial pressure gauges are the most numerous instruments in any plant, and many quality systems require them to be calibrated at a fixed interval. Gauge accuracy is stated as a class, the permissible error in % of span, so this report expresses every error the same way and checks hysteresis, which is a common failure in worn Bourdon tube movements.
How to fill in this template
- Enter the gauge range, unit and accuracy class (for example 1.0 for class 1.0 per EN 837-1, which allows ± 1 % of span).
- Mount the gauge vertically on the comparator or dead weight tester next to the reference standard.
- Exercise the gauge to full scale three times, then record readings upscale at each test point.
- Go to full scale and come back down, recording the downscale readings.
- Review error, hysteresis and the result, then sign the report. Replace or repair a gauge that fails.
What the formulas do
- Standard pressure = minimum + span × test point % ÷ 100.
- Error (% span) = (gauge reading − standard) ÷ span × 100.
- Hysteresis = |upscale − downscale| ÷ span × 100.
- PASS when errors and hysteresis are within the accuracy class.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does accuracy class 1.0 mean for a pressure gauge?
The permissible error is ± 1 % of the span. On a 0 to 10 bar gauge that is ± 0.1 bar anywhere on the scale.
What is hysteresis in a pressure gauge?
The difference between upscale and downscale readings at the same pressure, caused by friction and elastic effects in the movement.
What reference should I use?
A standard at least 4 times more accurate than the gauge, such as a dead weight tester or a digital test gauge.
