About the Junction Box Termination Schedule
Every instrument signal passes through a junction box on its way to the control room. The termination schedule is the only record that shows exactly which terminal and which multipair pair each signal uses. Without it, fault finding a dead loop means tracing cables by hand.
How to fill in this template
- Fill the junction box details and the outgoing multipair cable.
- List every terminal in order. Each signal pair normally uses three terminals: +, − and screen.
- Record the field cable, its core colours and the multipair pair it connects to.
- Mark spare pairs and terminate them too; they will be needed later.
- Print a laminated copy and fix it inside the junction box door.
What the formulas do
- No formulas: this is a reference record. Drop downs keep polarity entries consistent.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a junction box termination schedule?
A table showing, terminal by terminal, which field cable core and which multipair cable pair is connected in a junction box.
Should screens be connected in the junction box?
Yes, screens are carried through on their own terminal (isolated from the box) and earthed at one end only, normally the control room.
Should spare pairs be terminated?
Yes. Terminating spares keeps them protected and ready for future instruments.
