About the Thermowell Data Sheet

Thermowells fail mainly from flow induced vibration. A data sheet that includes velocity and density lets the vendor check the design against ASME PTC 19.3 TW before purchase.

How to fill in this template

  1. Fill in process conditions, especially maximum velocity and density.
  2. Choose profile, connection and insertion length.
  3. Specify bore to suit the sensor diameter.
  4. Request the wake frequency calculation and material certificates.
  5. Issue with the requisition.

What the formulas do

  • No formulas: specification document laid out in sections like an ISA 20 style data sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is velocity needed?

Vortex shedding frequency rises with velocity; the well must stay clear of resonance.

Tapered or straight?

Tapered wells are stiffer and respond faster; straight wells are cheaper.

What is U length?

The insertion length below the process connection.
