About the On Off (Shutdown) Valve Data Sheet
Shutdown valves must close tightly and quickly when demanded, often after years without moving. A data sheet that fixes shut off pressure, leakage class, fail action and stroke time gives the vendor what is needed to size the actuator and accessories correctly.
How to fill in this template
- Enter the function and SIL requirement from the cause and effect matrix or SRS.
- Give the maximum shut off pressure; it sets the actuator torque.
- Specify seat leakage, fire safe and antistatic requirements.
- Define fail action, air supply range and required stroke times.
- List accessories: solenoid, limit switches, partial stroke test device and quick exhaust.

- No formulas: specification document laid out in sections like an ISA 20 style data sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is shut off pressure?
The maximum pressure difference the valve must close against and seal. It sets the actuator torque.
What does fire safe mean?
The valve still seals within allowed leakage after a fire test, for example to API 607.
Why specify stroke time?
The safety function needs the valve closed within the process safety time; slow actuators or small solenoids can make it miss.
