About the Instrument Junction Box Data Sheet

Junction boxes collect field cables into multicores. A clear data sheet prevents wrong Ex ratings, too few terminals and missing earth bars.

How to fill in this template

  1. Define location, area classification and signal type.
  2. Choose enclosure material, size, IP and Ex protection.
  3. Count terminals including spares and earth requirements.
  4. List gland entries by cable size.
  5. Add labelling and test requirements.

What the formulas do

  • No formulas: specification document laid out in sections like an ISA 20 style data sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why separate IS and non IS?

IEC 60079-14 requires separation so energy cannot pass into IS circuits.

How many spare terminals?

Commonly about 20 %; follow your project specification.

Ex e or Ex d junction box?

Ex e (increased safety) is common for terminals; Ex d is used when devices inside can spark.
