About the Level Transmitter Data Sheet
Level measurement fails more often because of the process than the instrument: foam that absorbs radar, coating on probes, changing density on DP transmitters. A data sheet that records these conditions guides the choice of principle and lets the vendor confirm it will work.
How to fill in this template
- Enter vessel, liquid and operating data, including minimum and maximum density.
- Add the properties the chosen principle depends on: dielectric constant for radar and GWR, density for DP and displacer.
- Define the measuring range and its reference point (usually the vessel bottom or tangent line).
- Specify nozzle, probe or antenna, materials, output and Ex certification.
- Issue with the requisition for vendor completion.
What the formulas do
- Range in % of vessel = measuring range ÷ vessel height × 100.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which level principle should I choose?
It depends on the liquid and vessel: radar for most liquids, guided wave radar for low dielectric or turbulent services, DP where density is stable, displacers for interface and high pressure.
Why does dielectric constant matter?
Radar and capacitance instruments depend on it. Low values (below about 2) give weak signals.
Where is the level reference point?
Usually the vessel bottom or bottom tangent line. State it clearly on the data sheet and in the DCS.
