About the Pressure Transmitter Data Sheet
The instrument data sheet is the contract between the engineer and the vendor: it defines exactly what must be supplied. A complete pressure transmitter data sheet prevents wrong ranges, wrong materials and wrong Ex certificates, the three most common reasons a transmitter is rejected at receipt.
How to fill in this template
- Fill the general and process sections from the process data sheet and P&ID; always give normal, maximum and design values.
- Choose a measuring range so the calibrated range sits comfortably inside it, typically 1:1 to 10:1 turndown.
- Specify the Ex certification to match the hazardous area classification.
- Select wetted materials for the process fluid (SS 316L for most services, Hastelloy C or tantalum for corrosive fluids).
- Issue the data sheet with the requisition; the vendor completes the make and model.
What the formulas do
- No formulas: specification document. Section rows organise the data like an ISA 20 style data sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an instrument data sheet?
A document that specifies the process conditions and the required features of one instrument (or a group of identical instruments) for purchase.
What is the difference between measuring range and calibrated range?
The measuring range is what the sensor can handle; the calibrated range is the part of it scaled to 4 to 20 mA for this service.
Why add a siphon for steam?
A siphon (pigtail) holds condensate that protects the transmitter diaphragm from live steam temperature.
