About the HART Transmitter Configuration Record
Smart transmitters hold their range, units, damping and alarm settings in memory, invisible from the outside. A configuration record captures that hidden state before and after any intervention, which protects you when a reading looks wrong after maintenance and is required for SIS devices under IEC 61511.
How to fill in this template
- Connect the HART communicator and record every parameter in As found before changing anything.
- Make the approved changes and record the As left values.
- The Change column marks every parameter that differs; check that only approved items show CHANGED.
- Update the DCS range, instrument index and data sheet if the range or units changed.
- Sign and file with the MOC or work order.
What the formulas do
- Change shows CHANGED when the as found and as left text differ (EXACT comparison).
- Parameters changed = count of CHANGED.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why record HART configuration?
Because range, damping or alarm direction can be changed from a handheld without any visible sign. A record proves what was set and when.
What is NAMUR NE 43?
A recommendation that defines failure signal levels: below 3.6 mA or above 21 mA, with normal saturation at 3.8 and 20.5 mA.
Should write protect be on?
For SIS and critical transmitters, yes, to prevent unauthorised changes.
