About the 24 V DC Power Supply Load List
Undersized 24 V supplies cause brownouts, resets and random trips. A load list with worst case currents and margin sizes supplies, fuses and redundancy correctly.
How to fill in this template
- List every load with quantity and current.
- Use worst case current, not typical.
- Set the design margin.
- Read the required supply rating.
- Select supplies and redundancy, and size fuses per circuit.
What the formulas do
- Total (mA) = quantity × current each.
- Power (W) = total (mA) × V ÷ 1000.
- Required rating = total current × (1 + margin).

Frequently Asked Questions
Why 22 mA per loop?
Transmitters can drive up to about 21 to 22 mA on fault (NAMUR NE43), so the supply must cover it.
How much margin?
Commonly 20 to 30 % plus future spares.
Why 24 V DC?
It is safe to touch, standard for PLC I/O, and suits loop powered instruments.
