About the Instrument Installation Checklist

Most commissioning problems start as installation errors: wrong impulse line slope, a leaking fitting, a non certified gland in a hazardous area or a missing earth. An installation checklist signed before loop checking catches these early, when they are cheap to fix.

How to fill in this template

  1. Fill in the instrument and area details, including the hazardous area classification.
  2. Inspect each item in the field and select OK, Not OK or NA. Add a remark for every Not OK.
  3. Raise a punch item for every Not OK (see the punch list template).
  4. Reinspect after correction; the sheet shows OK when no items remain Not OK.

What the formulas do

  • Items not OK = count of "Not OK".
  • Ready for loop check shows CHECK while any item is Not OK.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should the installation checklist be completed?

After mechanical installation and before cold loop and hot loop checks.

Why does impulse line slope matter?

Gas lines must drain liquid back to the process and liquid lines must vent gas back to the process; otherwise trapped fluid causes measurement errors.

Who signs the installation checklist?

The installer, the inspecting engineer and usually the client QA/QC representative.
